I recently spotted some gorgeous hurricane vases and votives at West Elm:
The sea glass was a gorgeous touch that offered colors that fit right with my color scheme. They felt fresh and springlike and I couldn't wait to put them onto our dining table. Although I really loved the effect, but I wasn't a fan of the price. So I used these beauties as inspiration for my own vases.
I started out with clear vases found at a craft store ranging in price from $1-$4.
Along with frosted glass spray paint.
I gathered a few frosted glass craft paints in some very springlike hues, including light tealy blues and beautiful purples.
Once the frosted glass was dry, I squirted the frosted glass paint directly on the side of the vase/votive.
To achieve the subtle textured effect on the glass, I used a foam roller to spread the paint by rocking the roller around the entire perimeter of the vase.
Once all of the vases received their coat of frosted color, I placed them into the oven to cure {bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes}.
Once the paint was cured, I used some leftover gold tape to add a little extra pizazz to the top edges.
To finish off the super simple project, I filled the vases with some fresh hydrangeas {thank you Trader Joe's} and the votives with some tealight candles.
Now our table has beautiful pops of color, including some pretty "color of the year" purples.

DeleteI found the frosted paint at Michaels, it is part of the Martha Stewart paint line. I believe she had colors in every shade, my guess is that there was an ivory as well.
Best of luck! That is too bad about your chandelier, hopefully you are able to fix it to your liking!

Great simple project right now i just have various holders for my table settings, maybe i could use there for all the glass jars - i refuse to throw out

DeleteMy hubby helped me! :) I placed the tape on the lip of the jar and he held it while I pulled the tape tight. He then rolled the jar to keep the tape straight while I continued to pull it tight from the roll. It is hard to explain, but it really helped to speed up the process and kept my sanity in check, as I was having the same problem trying to do it myself.

I attempted this project today, and think I must have done something wrong :S. how long did you wait between the frosted spray paint and Martha Stewart paint? As I was using my roller to apply the MS paint, the frosted paint started peeling off :(.
ReplyDeleteOh no! So sorry to hear that! I did a few quick coats all at once and then let it cure for a few hours in a warm area. Definitely sounds like your spray paint wasn't dry enough yet. :(

ReplyDeleteI only used one coat. Did you make sure to wait for your frosted glass spray paint to fully cure? Or try baking the vases to set the color?
