After stumbling across the artwork of Michelle Armas, I knew it was exactly what I had been waiting for, and her art would be just the inspiration I needed.

Once upon a time, we used a giant ol' thrift store frame to create a pretty memo board.
And I used it and loved it. But I also loved that frame and because my studio wasn't finished, I wasn't using it as much as I had originally hoped. So, the frame started getting used around the house for other projects. So, when you saw the painted dresser, the frame was no longer there....
But, now that I am re-invigorated to move forward with updating the space, organizing it for Home Office month and using it daily, I wanted that memo board to come back to its original home.
A little fabric update {simple linen to tone things down}, a swap from horizontal to vertical, a photo and the new artwork to the right and some white balance adjusting on my camera, and I now have a fresh new look!
I have been playing musical lamps lately and the lamp that once lived on the dresser now lives next to the sofa in the family room, so I "borrowed" Preston's lamp as a stand in until I can find my own, or a different one for him.
I am now playing with some ideas to update the paint color on the dresser, or to bring in a solid, beautiful wood console instead since I don't have any wood toned furniture in the studio and I think it is just what the space needs {there is and will be a lot of white with pops of color going on in the rest of the room and I could use the dresser in our master bedroom for linen storage}. Until then, the deep blue already blends a bit nicer with the softer accents above. Only time will tell...
The memo board is beautiful and although we just updated it this week, I am already having fun pinning up current color trends, cards received, color palette ideas, business cards, photos, etc...
Funny how a simple update can re-inspire one to dive back into a room makeover.
How about a fun progression shot to show what a few minor tweaks can do?
And here is the direction I am hoping to go with the studio, however, knowing me, it's very likely to continue to be "tweaked" as well.

What updates have you made this month, that are leaving you invigorated and excited to use your space? Anyone else have a memo board and loooove it?
Thanks for all of your ideas and inspiration! I am going through my house room by room and finally getting organized! I love all of your creativity! We have a large framed memo board similar to that one. It is currently in the dining room and I use it to display artwork created by my kids. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the tweaking, and the progression pictures look like three different homes!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a memo board because I don't have a home office, but the closest thing I have is my planner with lots of pockets:
http://vintagezest.blogspot.com/2013/01/so-i-promised-peek-at-my-2013-planner.html
And for your other question, I love the minor changes I made to my closet. Just opening up the space in front of my shoes lets me actually see them! Maybe it's silly to be excited to use my closet, but oh well.

Thanks for the inspiration for my future memo board, from a fellow tweaker. :)
Love the changes. We are looking into transforming our extra bedroom/tv room upstairs into a craft/office space. I don't really have any rooms with "girly" colors in them, so I too would love to sneak a little bit in but not go overboard as it can be seen from our foyer and upstairs hall has two door that peek in.
ReplyDeleteJen, I really like this! The white on white works perfectly with the blue dresser - in my opinion anyway :) I love how you have a rainbow of small accents on the bulletin board. The photos you chose to frame next to that accent them really well too. Love it!
ReplyDelete- Lisa :)
This looks great! Is that your wedding photo on the wall? Would you mind posting a close up? Thanks
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a picture of us at a vow renewal we did for our 10 years in 2011. :)

Love the colors you are using!! Transformation looks good! In November, I painted one wall in my office with a Stencil Wall design that I had got. Well, my memo board (which I love and use all the time) didn't match. So, I found fabric at Hobby Lobby and recovered it. Now, it fits perfectly with the room! I also bought different fabric to cover two canvas prints so my room looks so good. I only need to get storage baskets for my wall shelf and then it will be done. yay!!
ReplyDeleteYAY! Sounds awesome and glad you were able to make it all work together. :)

Love the new tweak on your message board! I'm trying to put together a mama project/ play area space for my boys at our house and it's just a mess. Must regroup and try again! Thank you for all of your inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the things you do jen. We have an open-kitchen-living-room-dining area. (basically our entire first floor is one big room.) I've been tweaking it since we moved in two years ago! Trying to find a color scheme that's fun and bright, not boring, but all works together.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your ideas!!! you have no idea how much inspiration you've given to me. :-)
I love your style!!! But can I be honest? I actually really like the other lamp you had before. I think it brought the pop of color you needed to the space with so many neutrals.
ReplyDeleteGreat job though!
Vera
No worries! I agree, the studio will need splashes of color and I am actually hoping to bring in the yellow task lamp and give Preston his lamp back. Only time will tell!

Hi Jen! I've recently found your blog and I have to say, I'm in organising heaven! This is the first time I've commented, and of course I have a question - lol! Do you have a tutorial somewhere on your blog of how you made your memo board? I'm wanting something similar but I'm not a fan of the exposed cork boards and love the idea of using fabric. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Nadia!
DeleteHere is a link to the tutorial: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2011/09/basement-progress-frame-update-part-2.html
Thanks so much!
Jen
Thankyou xxx I'm off to have a look!
DeleteThis wall look so great Jen! The colors from your inspiration art piece are heavenly! I really like the linen cover and the mood board for the new design.
ReplyDeleteI hit a design block when it came to our office too. The first plan just wasn't working and it wasn't until I found the fabric (actually a duvet) that would become my curtains and some great knobs to get me going again.
Can't wait to see how this turns out and thanks for all the office inspiration this month!
That sounds incredible! I have thought of trying sheets, a duvet or shower curtains before, but never had the guts to actually do it. :) Off to check it out!

This is so cool! It is fun seeing your musical lamps. I love the linen on your board and the new art work. Beautiful photo of you and Bryan, btw. I love seeing all of your updates. It is so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, new admirer to your site and loving everything I see! I have a wooden dresser pretty old very similar to the one in your before pics. Could you outline the steps you took to repaint it? Unless it's on another page. In that case I might not have made it there yet. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly!
DeleteSure thing! Here is the post for you: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2012/07/our-dreamy-studio-dresser-is-done.html

DeleteHi Jen! Great colors scheme!! Love the new dresser! Where did you get your charging station?? I'm slowly but surely working on our new office space in our new house. Going through all of our paperwork right now and man do I have a lot of shredding to do!

Thanks Melissa!

I was going to ask this question as well, so I'm glad I checked the comments! I love that thing!
DeleteWe've just updated our bathroom, and I must say, I've never actually been excited to use that particular space before, lol. I smile every time I walk in now! (http://justagirlandherblog.com/a-sunny-powder-room-makeover/)Your memo board actually inspired painting the frames in this room, so THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteWe also just added a memo board to our new command center, (to be revealed soon :) and I <3 it!
I love watching the color progression of your space (every phase has been gorgeous!), and I'm excited to see where you go with it! Happy Friday!
~Abby =)
I just love that you never leave a space alone until you've completely perfected it! (If it ever becomes completely perfected haha.) Looks better and better each time!!

You have just completely inspired me! I now know what I will do with my huge thrift store frame that I was this close to throwing out :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks so nice! You're inspiring me to make quite a few changes to my place now...
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, where did you get that charging station (at least, that's what I'm thinking it is)? I've been hunting for something similar everywhere, and can't find a thing. Thanks so much!
Pottery Barn, I'm guessing! :)

DeleteIt's funny how seeing a simple update can make me itch to paint something! You are an inspiration, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the color you chose for that table/dresser. It's gorg! I have an older piece of furniture I keep my scrapbooking stuff in that is in need of an update. You've inspired me that with a little paint and new knobs it can be transformed! Thanks for the inpsiration :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Can you share where you got your phone charge station?

Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say I love your blog. I have been reading for awhile now and have gotten so much inspiration. I am in the middle of "tweaking" several rooms now in order to publish my "home tour" for my blog. I started a blog about a year ago and I am just now getting back into it. I have used several of your ideas and love them. When I get around to posting the different ones I'll be sure to link back to ya. I Love the painted dresser and memo board. It looks amazing!
What a great way to take something and move it around until its new again.

My memo board is currently exiled to my closet because it is too awesome to fit in my tiny room at the moment. But I have an inspiration wall that I love! Love your color palette, great choice.
ReplyDeletejust a quick FYI - Costco has a console table very similar to what you posted in your inspiration right now, and it comes with the baskets! Their furniture is very good quality, and rather inexpensive - comparatively. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the memo board! The linen was a great idea, and your pictures look fantastic next to it! <3
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the Pantone subway are print. Is this something you made? If not, could you share where you found it? Thanks! Oh, and I also love the small little cityscape print next to it :-)

Hi there. wondering where you found that lamp?
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah!
DeleteIt's actually a really old brass hand-me-down lamp that I received from my parents and gave a fresh coat of paint. I see them at Goodwill all the time for just a few bucks as well. :)
xo,
Jen
Love how it has transformed over time, you really do ring the changes!
ReplyDeletereally love the amazing transformation. I have been needing just a little push of inspiration in decorating a room in my house and this was it. love the new memo board! xx. gigi. food and beauty blogger @ www.gigikkitchen.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteAwesome transformation! I love the linen covered memo board. I can't believe you scored the frame for only $10. Super jealous. The whole vignette looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove the room and your changes! Thanks so much for sharing the art by Michelle Armas. I'm going to add some of her work to my wish list! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso I really like your pens, and the pretty coordinating colors with the room. What kind of pens are they?!?
Thanks! Shannon :)
Hi Shannon!
DeleteThank you so much! The pens are actually Martha Stewart Markers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002FW5A4C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002FW5A4C&linkCode=as2&tag=iheaorga-20
