I'm so excited to be back on iHeart Organizing! This time around I decided that our catch all of a laundry room needed an overhaul!
We recently added some special touches to our teeny tiny laundry room, a counter on top of our front loading machines, and a bar for hanging wet laundry.
Now it was time to get down to the details. First I added a tray {from Ikea}. Next I decanted our detergent into some old milk bottles. You can still buy milk in glass bottles, and they are way less expensive than other glass container, plus you get a bunch of free milk!! ;)
I used another container for vinegar {we use vinegar as a natural fabric softener}. I added a spray bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide. We've always used Hydrogen Peroxide as a stain remover and it works really well.
And every laundry room needs a piggy bank. I have no idea why but husbands tend to carry tons of change, our last piggy bank full bought me a new pair of heels for New Years Eve! ;)
Next I moved on to organizing our one and only laundry cabinet. First I added a pocket from Martha Stewart's line at Staples. I keep the manuals for our washer and dryer inside, and in front I keep a stain removal chart {found here}.
On to the cabinet itself. I pared it down to the bare necessities, some borax, washing soda, our hardwood floor cleaner, some bar mops, a couple of baskets for the ugly {things like shoe polish, suede cleaner, etc}. Of course, the iron!
Pretty simple, but very functional. I LOVE an organized laundry room! And somehow knowing where the washing machine manual is, makes me feel like I have my life together and I'm a real live grown-up. ;) haha
And because we all love bullet points so much, to organize our laundry room we:
- Used pretty bottles for detergent and fabric softener
- A spray bottle for stain remover
- A tray to help corral counter clutter, and help catch any detergent run off
- An Adorable piggy bank
- A clear pocket for manuals and stain removal charts
- Some baskets to contain "The Ugly"
- and last but definitely not least . . . a big de-cluttering session! I made sure that there was nothing in the little laundry cabinet that shouldn't be there!
"I’m Ashli from Mini Manor Blog. I live in Big Beautiful British Columbia with my Husband Lee and our 5 lb yorkie Max. I have an organizers heart, I am a bin-aholic, and I’ve never met a wicker basket I didn’t love. During the summer I can be found lounging in the garden or at the gym . . . one of those was a lie. And in the last 5 years I’ve made more then 2000 cupcakes. I want to bake, eat and organize. Hand me some eggs, flour and an unorganized kitchen, that’s my idea of a great weekend, okay go ahead throw Ryan Gosling in there too."
Sigh... Lovely!!! Thanks for the inspiration Ashli and Jen!

I really need to beautify my laundry area. It might actually make me like doing laundry more. Ok, maybe not but still it would at least make me smile. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Melissa
The piggy bank is brilliant, never would have thought, but so true!
ReplyDeleteLove the piggy bank idea--especially when doing my husband's laundry!
ReplyDeleteI agree the piggy bank, so smart! love that everything is in glass bottles and spray bottles. really stream lines things.
ReplyDeleteLove Ashli's laundry room (and her whole house). :) Mine (laundry room) is slowly but surely getting there. It was a big project adding in a laundry tub that wasn't there before. New upper cabinets. Next is crown molding, a board and batten wall treatment and tile on the floor.
ReplyDeleteVery clean and neat. Although I wouldn't keep hydrogen peroxide (H202) in the clear spray bottle or near the dryer as it breaks down rapidly when exposed to light and/or heat, causing it to essentially become plain water (H20).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone else noticed this as well. Makes me feel like less of a dork.
DeleteThanks I'll switch it up!! :)
DeleteI was going to make this comment too! I'm not the only dork either :) Maybe spray painting a bottle a pretty color? Or just getting a dark tinted spray bottle?
DeleteYou could just put the sprayer right in the original hydrogen peroxide bottle.
DeleteDitto the pp...you need to get an opaque spray bottle for your hydrogen peroxide or it will quickly loose it's efficacy.
ReplyDeleteOur laundry room is the same size and your counter/cabinet/bar is exactly the layout I had in my head! Thanks so much for giving me a visual to go off of! I am off to read your post on how you created it!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the legs that support the table top.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love it! I have always told Ashli I want to be her when I grow up (unfortunately I have already surpassed her by quite a bit).
ReplyDeleteThe piggy bank is genius! However, we needed an open jar because we found way more hair clips and ties than money with two teen girls in the house!!
I love the ideal of a piggy bank. Genius!
ReplyDeleteBig follower of your blog Ashli! Thanks for sharing your organized space! I love what you do with the space that you have! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Love how you organized it!
ReplyDeleteLove this! May I ask where you found the baskets? I am working on a cabninet of random things and am having a hard time finding baskets that are the right size for the shelves.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah,
DeleteThey are just baskets from Ikea! :)
Hope that helps!
Ashli
Be still my beating heart! I love everything about this laundry room - the colorful front load machines, the beadboard, the drying space, and all the pretty containers. We are remodeling and are about to gain a laundry room (we currently do not have one and our machines are in the garage). Thank you for the inspiration and design ideas!
ReplyDeleteHydrogen peroxide shouldnt be stored in a clear bottle.
ReplyDeleteI think that I need a front load washer andddd a hanging rack.. to do list!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE the piggy bank! Just love it. Sharing it with all my readers, too.
ReplyDeleteI love it. So simple and clean. And your w/d is your pop of color! Makes you almost want to spend more time in there.!! Just FYI...all manuals can be found online. I always let any of my clients I work with with organizing that it's a good way to eliminate some of that paper clutter! I recently had to access mine for troubleshooting and it was way easy to find.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Where did you get the lids for the milk bottles? I can get the bottles, but the lids are harder
ReplyDeleteThanks Leigh,
DeleteOur milk bottles come with those lids! :)
Hope that helps you a bit!
Ashli

ReplyDeleteAshli,
ReplyDeleteI have eggs. I have flour. And I have the worst kitchen ever. Come to my house. I am just 6 hours south of you on I-5. Take the Bolt Bus- it's cheap and fast. Come to my houuuussssse...
Oh, and I love your laundry room- it's so crisp looking!
(come to my houuusssse!)
I LOVE the idea of having a piggy bank in the laundry! So cute and such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to find that random piggy I have and jazz up out laundry closet:) thanks IHeartOrganzing!
ReplyDeleteI have a practical question - if you decant your detergent, where do you store the original bottle? Don't get me wrong I love the look but if I do this I don't know where I would store the original stuff if not in the laundrey. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWe store it in the baskets above our cupboards! You can see them in the first picture!
DeleteHope that helps!
Ashli
I LOVE the piggy bank idea, Thanks! My husband gets really annoyed with our spare change not being in one place. This would help. Also, we raise pigs, so this would be another clever way to incorporate pigs into our decor (not that we don't have plenty already;) )
ReplyDeleteove the laundry room redo and will definitely have to duplicate some of the ideas in my laundry room. I do have one concern, with the laundry detergent decanted into former milk bttles, it sets up an unsafe condition for children. Children are naturally curious and could attempt to drink the contents. Dont mean to be a killjoy, but just concerned about safety
ReplyDeleteLove your ideas! I didn't know about Hydrogen Peroxide as a stain remover (and I'm excited to give it a try - along with the tips here to not use a clear bottle to store it).
ReplyDeleteI did notice you had a container labeled BORAX but unfortunately all the confidence we had in this being a safe/green alternative turns out not to be true.
Google it for recent articles (the Environmental Working Group site is down for updates so I can't link it. However, Forbes has an article (as well as other sites) "Borax or sodium borate which is considered a hormone disruptor and has been shown to have reproductive and developmental toxicity in humans"
Just hoping to pass the news on
So excited to see this as I love to organize and I've been motivated to clear out and beautify our laundry room and Ashley's laundry room is one of my inspirations! Love the piggy bank and tray, too! Thanks so much for post.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the containers for your Borax?
ReplyDeleteAs always a wonderful room in your home.
They are from The Dollar Tree!
DeleteAshli
The piggy bank idea is brilliant! As soon as I saw this, I went in search for that piggy bank my son received as a present many years ago. It now sits on a tray in the laundry room.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Where did you get your laundry basket and liner?
ReplyDeleteCanadian Tire, here in Canada.
DeleteAshli

Adorable!!! Too bad I only have a front loader dryer (my washer isn't), but I love the counter top idea. You've made your laundry room so simple, clean, elegant, and cute all at the same time! Thanks for the ideas, Ashli.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Wish they'd fix up the laundry room in our apartment complex to look this good and be this functional. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOur Milk bottles look like that!!! How did you remove the labels of the dairy? Ours are like heat sealed on... I'd hafta sandblast them off! lol LOOOOOOVE IT ALL LADY!!!
