IHeart Handmade Walls!

My name is Jen and I am addicted to color.

Color makes me smile and since I spend so much time within the walls of my home, I try to incorporate cheerful colors in any way that I can.  Throw pillows, rugs, accessories and through painted furniture and walls, the colors in our home make it feel like spring and summer year round!

However, I struggle a bit when it comes to adding art on our walls.  Which is probably one of the most important and key ways to liven up your home and make it feel all warm and fuzzy... but I get nervous.  Nervous to pull the trigger on a huge art investment.  Nervous that what I pick won't make sense or jive with the rest of our home.  Nervous that I will change my mind five minutes after I put something up.... so, I chicken out, toss a few pics of the kids on the wall, use mirrors as space fillers and call it good.

But it isn't good.

My home is asking for more.  More life.  More character.  More color.

That is where my new favorite read comes in.

The authors behind one of my absolute favorite blogs, the Handmade Home, have created the happiest, most colorful and creative eBook I have seen.  It gave me joyful goosebumps and is where I plan on gaining oodles of inspiration to give more life to the walls in our home.

It is quite fitting really.  I mean, look at their home!  Isn't it incredible?

Not to mention, they were the inspiration behind our first major art DIY project that I still hug daily, and have The Handmade Home to thank!

Sometimes I look at their projects and think there is absolutely no way I could create something as beautiful.  I am no artist.  I would totally screw it up.  But their book gave me the confidence I needed to realize that art is imperfect and I totally can do it!

I downloaded the book on my iPad and it lit up the screen with joy.  Seriously, this book is so darn colorful, whimsical and eye catching, I couldn't stop turning page after page!

I really love that they make it easy for DIYer's to understand how much they can tackle.  Meaning, they have a great guide that estimates skill level, time and moolah needed for each project.

They also cover different types of love for your walls.  Frames, artwork, mirrors and clocks, this book has it all!  They even chat about different painting techniques and share their favorite beautiful colors!

I love that everything has a sense of life, of dimension and can be given a personal and unique twist.  The book filled me with so many new ideas, I can't wait to whip something up for our entry, the playroom, Preston's room and our master bedroom! That's right, I now have newly inspired ideas for spaces all over our home!

I wish I could give the folks over at The Handmade Home a big sloppy kiss for being so awesome and putting so many wonderful ideas in one place!  For now, virtual hugs and smooches will have to do.  The walls of my home will benefit from their creativeness and ability to create masterpieces with paint and wood, and for that, I am eternally grateful!

Are you looking to bring more smiles, warmth and interest to the walls in your home?   You can find The Handmade Walls eBook here and be well on your way to jazzing up your happy home as well!

  4. We buy a little piece of art where ever we travel to and then get them framed and have a nice little collage on the wall.

  5. This looks like a fantastic book. I'm a sucker for buying art! I love going to local art fairs and open studios because I generally find the value is really good for what I'm getting. Nothing more fun than knowing you are getting an original and that no one has the exact same piece you do. I'm also a huge fan of art with some meaning behind it. I have a few pieces by someone who did my blog header and have cool neighborhood maps of all the cities I've lived in my adult life.

What I love from the shots above is that you can really see their personality. To me that's so much more inspiring than what I sometimes see which are pictures that look like they could have come out of a PB catalog. I love your blog for the same reason, everything seems be infused with real personality.

    1. Awww shucks! Thanks so much! I agree, it is so important that your home reflects you, what you love, your personalities and items should hold meaning.

I am making it a goal of mine to check out at least one local art fair within the next couple of months! Sounds like a fun way to spend the day and hopefully I can find something that works within the walls of our home.

      xo!

  6. I just downloaded this e-book last night! Great minds think alike! :) I only got to quickly browse it last night as it was late, but I plan on soaking up every word and picture in it this weekend. You are right, the pages do light up your screen!

  7. I have to get this book! I'm only now finding the courage to dump the "box store" art and work on making my walls more meaningful. It's a little intimidating, but once you get going it's hard to stop, isn't it? I love having something on my walls that's one-of-a-kind. So far, I've ordered several Etsy prints, framed my kids art and am currently attempting a painting of my own. Next, I'd love to do the huge framed cork board like the one in the book. Thanks for the review!

  8. Jen, I went for years with white walls and not much on them. Can't understand why but I guess I lacked courage, or imagination, or something. Well. this year I fell in love with a really contemporary orangey piece of wall art at Pier I. We were reinventing our house, anyway, so I bought it and selected wall colors to go with that one piece, which is displayed with wash-lighting on my new dining-room wall. Several walls are a butternut squash color. One accent wall is a darker version of the same and the other, do you believe it, is navy blue! I put my new oak hutch on that wall displaying my mom's Mikasa china set that is putty and navy. Can't believe I did it. Can't believe we LOVE it. So, I totally understand you love and need for COLOR! It makes such a cifference.

  9. Jen- If we lived in the same town, I'm quite sure we would be forever besties. ;} You are so super sweet to give our hard work such an amazingly glowing review. Seriously made me tear up a little! We simply don't deserve such a sweet friend as you. Love your beautiful work as always-and those stairs are ROCKIN! Thank you again...and we love the sloppy kisses. Back at ya, girl!!!
