The air is crisp. The leaves have fallen. My mum flowers are dying. The mornings are chilly. Winter jackets and knit hats are being worn. Fall is definitely in full swing here in Wisconsin! And as much as I look forward to this time of the year so we can take our annual trips to the apple orchards and pumpkin patches, the kids have something else on their minds.... Halloween!
I decided to break out the Silhouette CAMEO and some craft paint for the pumpkins, to create a quickie outdoor display. Of course, I can't be typical and stick with the black and orange theme. I love color too much. And since the rest of the outdoors is now all brown, black and orange, I decided to spice up the front porch with pinks, teals, yellows and orange.
The kids had fun painting the pumpkins white and adding dots and diamonds... we just went with some artificial ones for now until we can carve up the real ones in another week or so.
I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out some letters for the front door and bats for our planters. Since Silhouette now has vinyl that is durable enough for outdoor use, I decided to put it to the test of the harsh fall temps, rains and early snowfalls that Wisconsin tends to bring.
Silhouette is having a fun Halloween promo right now, which includes the following goodies:

I've always wanted one of these, there seems to be so much you can do with one! Thanks for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteI love what you did! I just got my cameo and made a bunch of bats for our front door. I posted about it here http://www.artsymomma365.com/2012/10/easy-halloween-decor-for-front-door.html
ReplyDeleteDoes the vinyl remove easily from doors and walls? I love the look, but am scared to try it. My husband would flip if I permanently messed with our door, lol.
Again, I love what you did here, and I adore your blog!
Thank you for the chance to win ...I would love one of these!
ReplyDeleteWe are going all out with an Insane Asylum theme for our front yard - but I'd love a Silhouette for our Thanksgiving and Christmas decoration plans!!!

ReplyDeleteThe phrase on the door is adorable. I saved the turquoise, pink, and green pumpkins for my daughter's room. Orange is my least favorite color so I tend to stick with it for Fall so that I'm at least using it once a year...outside of my house where I don't have to look at it lol.
DeleteHere's the first part of our outdoor decor: http://chaosinmycasa.blogspot.com/2012/10/pumpkin-painting-tutorial.html
I found an old white wooden bench at a neighbor's curb (she was throwing it out) and it has mushrooms growing all over it. I put it on my porch with pumpkins on it and it looks perfect. Pretty soon some mice or spiders will find their way there too...
ReplyDeleteLove that you used the pink instead of traditional orange! THe peek a boo is a great idea too!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely drooling over all the adorable things you make with your silhouette! So cute!

How easy will the letters and bats be to remove after the event? (any sticky residue left behind?)
Hallowe'en isn't such a big deal over here in Britain, I wish it was!! X
Do you ever try and save the stickers after the Holiday is done?
ReplyDeleteIf you do, How would you go about doing that?

I just put the word "spooktacular" on my entertainment center(i'll be posting tomorrow about that). It's so much fun to watch TV now. I also turned a typical boring basket in my house into a witches candy basket for Halloween night. Check it out here.... It's one wicked transformation =)

ReplyDeleteThank you for this amazing giveaway. I really love the polka dot and diamond designs on the pumpkins. Last weekend my son bought a pumpkin munckin from school to decorate. We decorated the pumpkin by by melting crayons with a candle and let the colorful drippings fall over the pumpkin. I told him its a happy pumpkin. He was so excited to take it back to school to decorate his classroom. I didn't get a chance to take a pic.

Love this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThe start of this post caused me a little concern until I realised you were talking about flowers! I'm Australian (but living in California) and we call our mothers Mum rather than Mom so I was a little worried when I first read the line "My mums are dying"!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love that you decorated your pumpkins in something other than the traditional Halloween colours and themes. As we're new to this whole Halloween thing (this is our 2nd Halloween ever) my kids are pretty happy to stick to the traditional colours. I do really like the idea of painting the pumpkins rather than carving them. I might have to keep that in mind for my two year old as I don't think I trust her carving skills just yet! My five year old however, can't wait to get carving.
Eeek! That is awful!! Sorry about the confusion! I will update the post, I would hate for anyone to take that any other way!
Deletexo,
Jen
I am not much of a Halloween decorator but I do love fall and TONS of pumpkins piled by the front door!
