A few months ago, I used some banked Joss & Main credit to snag a desk and mirror to use together as a vanity in our new dressing room. Although the two pieces were sold during different flash sales, when I popped them together, they were like the hubs and I... completely meant to be.
Two years ago when I started designing up the room, I knew I wanted to create a cozy and special place to escape and be a girl in this home full of boys. The desk and mirror were the missing link the space has been waiting for! {I know it's crazy ridiculous that we have a dressing room, however, you can find more about how it came to be here.} But oh so white right? It's a phase. My name is Jen and I am addicted to white furniture. Seriously, I just love the clean and fresh feeling that the white gives, especially in windowless areas... but this was screaming for some color. Even the drawer dividers disappeared in the sea of white...
Yawn....
The first pop of fun and whimsy I decided to add to this new girly hot spot, were some fabulous knobs I found at Hobby Lobby for $1.50 each!
Aren't they incredible? During our recent trip out to Montana, Amanda treated me to the most incredible and overwhelming trip to Hobby Lobby. I was a Hobby Lobby virgin until that point, so I had no idea what to expect, and it was everything I was hoping for, and so much more! Their knob selection was my favorite part!
So much better already!!
The next step was to tackle the inside of the drawers. Now when I started this project, I will admit, I questioned if I was going overboard. Have I taken my obsession with labeling too far? But when I was done, I knew it was the right move and it will make me smile big day after day, and that is what matters, crazy or not.
I picked a slew of my favorite colors of Silhouette's premium vinyl and started by popping the first one into my super slick cutting machine.
I was hoping to create something graphic and colorful inside the drawers, so I cut out the labels from different fonts, colors and images, and transferred them to the bottom of the acrylic drawer dividers. This allowed me to easily see the labels, but they would also stay protected.
As always, I was excited that the machine was able to make such sweet cuts for me, especially since some of the fonts I adore are so delicate!
Once all of the labels were cut and transferred to the bottoms of the dividers, they made the statement I was going for inside the drawers...
Even when all of my makeup was added into the dividers, you could still see glimpses of the colors peeking out and saying hello.
Since I also use the vanity for giving my hair some love, the second drawer was devoted to those belongings.
Goodbye white, hello color!
Now to find the perfect rug and this room will be about complete. Time for a happy dance!
So now that we have gotten through the vanity details, it's time for the promo details!
Now through August 31st, you can snag your own Silhouette CAMEO and Vinyl bundle, for $75 off the regular price!
That means you can snag the following goodies:

I love how you labeled the bottom, so your stuff doesn't mess up the labels! Genius!
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that you had never been to Hobby Lobby?! You have been missing out-so much fun stuff! I'm planning a trip there today to pick up a few things for some projects.
ReplyDeleteThey just don't have any Hobby Lobby's near me. So sad, I know. I guess I will have to make more trips out to Montana to get my fix, lol!

ReplyDeleteI can see how one could get lost in there for days! It's amazing!

ReplyDeleteI have thought about it! It's just a matter of finding the time, but hopefully I will get to a point where I can add "as seen on IHeart" items to the shop! :)

Question about your flooding: So would that flood damage have been covered by flood insurance? We don't have flood insurance but I would really like to buy some. I guess it isn't that expensive??? But does it have tons of exclusions? I'm always worried about that or some nasty city sewer back-up which I guess most insurance doesn't cover either?
ReplyDeleteHi there!
DeleteI would recommend chatting with your local home owner's insurance rep. We didn't have any flood coverage {we can't even obtain flood insurance and we didn't have a rider we needed on our home owners policy to cover the damages}. I have heard that if you can obtain the flood coverage, it can be costly, but I honestly can't say. We had our sump pump fail due to a power outage, so it was as simple as adding a rider onto our policy to protect us should it happen again.
xo!
Jen
Fantastic work as always Jen!!
ReplyDeleteI love Hobby Lobby too! Your space looks awesome! Thanks for giving us a chance to win!
ReplyDeletethat is the cutest thing!
ReplyDeleteThe labels you made are so fun and unexpected!! Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have a crazy question.
ReplyDeleteWhat brand is the vinyl that is used with the Cameo? Is there a name on the back of it?
I only ask becasue I work for a plastics company that MAKES vinyl and I'm wondering if it is our film.
Please send me an email if you can.
nrmason122475@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Another great project. Looks great. I know you are organized and streamlined and I try to live this way too, but is that REALLY all of your hair and makeup stuff?! Mine is organized and it still takes up three drawers!!! Most impressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yep, that is it. :) I also have some things in the bathroom such as face moisturizers and bath products, but as far as daily makeup goodies, I try to keep just the basics. I used to have a bit of a love for makeup and clothes, but I always found myself using the same things each day, or wearing only some of my favorite clothing pieces, so a more simplified life has been working out wonderfully!

Love it. The one thing you need is a flat iron holder. It will allow you to put away your flat iron while it is still hot. It is one of the best things I have ever purchased.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristen! I will have to look into that! :)

LOVE this! I wish I had a dressing room as well but this gives me hope for creating my own vanity in our next house!

Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOmg I'm in LOVE with your labels!! :) where did you get the little cup thing that holds your brushes?
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren!
DeleteIt's from Anthropologie a few years back but I think they still carry it or something similar. I don't typically splurge on higher end dishes unless I am only use one piece for some sort of storage :)
xo,
Jen
I would love if you sold the dividers and labels on etsy!! I want some!!
ReplyDeleteLove the labels! They add color without overdoing it.
ReplyDeleteVery cute space! As for Hobby Lobby - come on down to Rochester or head to LaCrosse! It seems so strange that there is not one in the Cities!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness I just would LOVE to have a Silhouette Cameo! I've been dying to get one!
ReplyDeletehttp://busysweetlife.blogspot.com/
Great idea! I am searching for a similar desk for my own dressing room. I would like it to be versatile because I am sure I will only have the luxury while I am a single lady.
ReplyDeleteOK...I am officially obsessed with your labels! If only I had a dressing room... :-)
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and have seen some great organizing tips on here. I am wondering though why your contests are only open to US residents. I know that a lot of blog contests are open to residents of the US and Canada and am wondering if this would be possible in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi Helen!
DeleteI LOVE my international readers, however, unfortunately I am not the one who sets the guidelines when it comes to who the giveaways are open to. It has a lot to do with the charges that occur when shipping the giveaway items outside of the US and even sometimes with the customs process. I always check with my sponsors to see if they are willing to ship internationally, however, it's really up to them since they handle the mailing of the items.
Thanks so much!
xo,
Jen
Jen your vanity is glamourous w/ the addition of those knobs, etc. I *adore* the labels you made for the drawer inserts/containers and wish I had access to, or finances to splurge, on a Silhouette. I agree -- when time permits you should definitely sell those labels on Etsy!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog,
Dee
I keep thinking my name will get picked one of these days- I would so love one of these great tools! Thanks for the fun giveaway and your terrific blog!
ReplyDeleteDear Jen,
ReplyDeleteCan you please help a girl out over here in New Zealand!
I have been following your blog and pinterest for sometime now, and every day I grow more envious of your silhouette cameo and all the things you can do with them! I have looked and looked for suppliers in New Zealand only resulting in hefty hefty prices! I would so love to have one of these machines, yet i cant enter your giveaways as they are only to USA. oh to have my hands on one of these all the things that it can do! Can you help me out?
Hi Ashleigh!
DeleteSuch a bummer that it is so hard to get there. I wonder if there are other types of cutting machines there that are comparable?
xo,
Jen
I am in awe with your pantry transformation. Loved the candy section best, lol, No seriously I loved it! And now with the Vanity organization, I am feeling like i am slacking and should get to work doing a little reorganizing myself.lol Thanks for the cahnce to win the Cameo, it has been on my Bucket list for a long long time:)

So excited about this giveaway, been saving up for a Silhouette so it would be GREAT and SO exciting to win one!! Thanks for hosting this giveaway Jen! Btw, LOVE the vanity, so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYou know I've wondered several times while reading your blog "how come none of her great finds ever come from Hobby Lobby??" Because that is where ALL of my great finds come from! I would be so lost without it. Especially during the holidays! Now every time you go out of town it'll be a treat to find a Hobby Lobby wherever you are visiting!
ReplyDeleteThe makeup labels are fantastic!!!!!
I love, love, LOVE those clear organizers!! You are so creative!! And I have to say that you not having a Hobby Lobby is payback for me not living anywhere close to an IKEA!! Just kidding, I'm always jealous of your IKEA hacks, now I can rub it in your face that I live 5 minutes away from Hobby Lobby! Ha!
ReplyDeletePs. I hope you realize that I'm kidding and that I really love your blog! :-)
Oh, I totally get it! :) Between Hobby Lobby and World Market, I am always jealous of other blogger's finds. So when I post about IKEA, although I feel bad sometimes, we have it locally so I can't help but take advantage of it!

Jen
I love the labels in the organizers. It's a pop of fun. It would make me smile each time tha tI opened the drawer.
ReplyDeleteI am a recent follower so please pardon my really silly question. How are you able to create labels that would stick on underneath the clear container from the top side of the font? I'm also new to label and cutting machines.
ReplyDeleteHi Gig-ee!
DeleteThe labels are cut from a vinyl product that has an adhesive on one side and can stick to just about anything :)
xo,
Jen
Thank you for sharing your inspiring happiness here! And thank you too for the notion that I might one day own a Cameo. I've about worn out a Cuttlebug and am ripe for moving on.

Your design is so happy and fun - and useful! Thanks for a chance to win the Cameo!! -Pamela
ReplyDeleteAwesome Jen!! Love the labels! Can you share what fonts you used and if those are Silhouette designs, can you share the design numbers? I bought my Silhouette because of you and I love it, love using it with vinyl the most!
ReplyDeleteGig-ee you mirror the design then the sticky part becomes the top. Vinyl is colored through so it works :)
Hope that helps.
Since I didn't save the cut templates, I am not 100% sure any longer, but I believe that I used the following fonts: Simply*Glamorous, Tall Films, Trajan Pro, Callie Hand and Sofia.

Beautiful! Totally looks like something you'd see for sale at the store. Hoping to win a Silhouette for our new all-girls non-profit PreK-12 private school. The school's goal to to empower young girls to be future leaders :)
ReplyDeleteThe school doesn't have many funds to buy the expensive accessories for labeling all the boxes and tubs/tupperware we have organized everything in,not to mention craft accessories, so this would be a great asset to have!! Any profits the school makes goes towards scholarships for those who can't afford the tuition.
I'll be teaching Kindergarten Jr. and this would be a God-send!
PS - I am A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D to your blog :)
Jen: What a fab, girly project. You will have many happy hours at your vanity, and I'm sure the perfect rug is out there. Thanks for the opportunity to win a prize.
ReplyDeleteI love your project. The fun fonts would make me smile every time I pick up a makeup item. Thank you for the chance
ReplyDeleteCan you share what fonts you used? I especially love the one you wrote "eyes" in light pink. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSince I didn't save the cut templates, I am not 100% sure any longer, but I believe that I used the following fonts: Simply*Glamorous, Tall Films, Trajan Pro, Callie Hand and Sofia.

I homeschool our 2 daughters and would love to have this awesome product!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen I found your blog in the past week and I am enthralled! I am amazed by you. I swear you are everything I aspire to be. I had a very neat, organized, mother who was also into scrap booking and crafts in general. Though she made a living creating one of a kind wedding ensembles (some for famous people as well), she dabbled in a lot of other craft areas. I did not get her gift of organization. So now @ 40 with 2 kids Juliet,6 and Hayden,3 I am trying to get our new home in order. We bought a house 8 months ago we painted, had a fence installed but didn't really put US into it. Our style. The the rooms are all blank canvases waiting to be painted.I am finally excited about redoing the den/playroom and the basement their 2nd playroom and a movie room. Since I found your blog my mind is racing 24/7, thinking about where I can boxes, paper, contact paper, what color paints, etc. Very overwhelming at first. I am certainly hoping to learn a lot from you since you have the most amazing home I have seen. Please tell your husband to cherish you and thank you daily for everything you do..because you are WONDERFUL! One more thing what is that wonderful font you used for the vanity clear cases (i.e. eyes, face, the mascara) I need to win the Cameo I <3 one sooooo badly!
ReplyDeleteThank you sooooo much for the kind comment, and congratulations on your new home! So exciting to have a blank slate to play with!!
DeleteSince I didn't save the cut templates, I am not 100% sure any longer, but I believe that I used the following fonts: Simply*Glamorous, Tall Films, Trajan Pro, Callie Hand and Sofia.
xo!
Jen
This idea is fabulous! Vinyl stickers are great and easy to take off if you feel like changing things up! Wish we have a hobby lobby in Toronto! They need to open one here soon!

ReplyDeleteHi Alexa,
DeleteI found them at Target but I have also seen similar styles and options at The Container Store and on Amazon.
xo!
Jen
I don't have a Target in my area so I was able to find some at Wal-Mart. Although they do look a little more plasticy compared to the ones that you have (yours seem to look more like glass... if that makes sense!)
DeleteAbsolutely love this. I have been looking all over for the clear drawer dividers and have had no luck finding them anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that cute little blue mirror?? I have a silver one that's a bit taller from IKEA but a colored one would look much cuter since all my furniture is white too!
ReplyDeleteWhere are your drawer separators from I'm looking for some like that and they look perfect please could you link it?
ReplyDeleteHello!
DeleteThey were from Target years ago, and I haven't seen them there since. However, Container Store and Amazon both have a lot of great acrylic drawer organizer options.
xoxo!
