And although the moulding is fabulous, the mirror was a crucial piece in pulling it all together. The unfortunate part is that it was a placeholder mirror that I stole from our living room:
Because the mirror looked so good in both locations, and because it was only $25 bucks from Target, I really, really considered multiple times just going and snagging another. But that is lazy and cheating and I kept asking myself, "Do I really want two of the same mirror in my house?" Yawn...
So, for a few months now, our bedroom has been mirror-less...
I was looking for something about 24" wide and in an orb finish to really tie in with the chandelier and pop against the wall. And of course I can never seem to find what I am looking for when I want it....so a few months had come and gone. Then, one day I was perusing around my local HomeGoods and one of the first places I head to is the mirror department {after drooling over their storage items along the way}. That is where I spotted it. The solution for our blank bedroom wall! It wasn't the right color but it was the right size, and it was on clearance for $20 so into the cart it went!
I really liked the gold edges, but it just wasn't right in the room, and I knew that I wanted a darker, more dramatic finish. So as you can see, I whipped out the handy painters tape {and an exacto knife to create clean edges}...
I found the ORB metallic paint at Home Depot, it had primer built in, so it was a winner for this gal!
Two quick coats, a day to dry and I was ready to slap that lovely lady up on the wall!
Smitten doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about the new mirror!
The black really looks nice and dramatic against the walls and was the key to pulling everything together. In fact, I adore this one more than the original from the living room, so I am glad I held out until I found just the right one.
You are right, that mirror is much better and prefect for your space. I am also on the hunt for the perfect mirror... I think I just may head over to visit the homegoods department our TJ has!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! Looks great!

I love what you did with it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the mirror! Any organizing ideas for kids sippy cups and plates Jen?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a super organizer like Jen(I so want to be like her when I grow up). But I recently tamed my kids plastic wear with a simply basket. I stacked them all neatly and stood them up in the basket which I then placed in my cabinet. It worked fabulously! Much nicer than all that colorful "junk" being all over the place. Hope that helps.
DeleteI agree with Patrina! I love an easy basket to corral each item type so it's easy to find quickly. I have also seen many people dedicate a lower drawer to kid items, so as the kids grow, they can help grab their own things.

Jen
Your decorating style is beautiful and serene! Fabulous job! I wanted to share with you my latest project of a backpack corner for my kids back to school!! http://www.adoptioncreatesfamilies.com/2012/07/backpack-corner.html
ReplyDeleteIf you have any tips for doing a lunch packing station that would help me out a ton!
Your corner turned out really amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!

I loooove it! It works perfectly in the room - and what a fantastic deal!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it Jen! It looks so good in that room!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend! :)
I recently used a can of silver spray paint for a cream colored shelf in the nursery along with a bright blue Ikea night light that needed to be toned down a bit. It is on my "Just Showing Off" post from a few weeks ago. The project was a lot of fun! : )
ReplyDeleteSo jealous! I've been looking for a mirror just like that and they are always over $200! Love Homegoods!
ReplyDeleteI agree! It is a little smaller than most, but that was perfect for me, and my wallet! :)
Deletexoxo,
Jen
I love the room, of course especially the mirror! Say, would you please share where you got the lovely chandelier? I can't seem to find any I like except the ones I see in pics...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :))
Hi Birgit!
DeleteI found the chandelier from IKEA awhile back, I can't seem to locate it on their website any longer. And the shades were an add on.
I would scour craigslist and thrift stores, I have seen SO many great chandelier makeovers. Home Depot has some simple and inexpensive options as well.
xoxo,
Jen
I love BOTH mirrors, I would have had a very hard time deciding which one was better.
ReplyDeleteThat one really and truly is perfect. I've been looking for just the right dresser for my clothes since last fall. Either too much or too big.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
wow!!! looks so good! thank heavens for home goods
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!! You can find some neat things at Home Goods. Spray paint is a good fix for anything. Just used that same color on the brass kick plate on our all glass storm door. Replaced all door hardware with the oil rubbed bronze. Couldn't find a kick plate to fit, so I spray painted it. :)
ReplyDeleteLove how the mirror turned out. Your room rocks.

Jen, it looks great! This mirror has so much more presence than the placeholder mirror. ORB looks way better than the tacky gold before!
ReplyDeleteLove the look and extra points for you for being patient enough to tape all of that off!
ReplyDeleteI just spray painted and stenciled a nightstand for our guest room, but now my mother in law is here and you can't see any part of it:)

That turned out great, my dear! Good call on the darker finish. I used that same paint for my son's hardware. Big fan. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out for a pressed tin mirror...I'll know it when I see it. Yours turned out lovely. And I'm pretty sure our living rooms are the same color green!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a project just like this! i also just spray painted a ceramic owl i found at goodwill! i love spray paint!!
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Jen. I have not seen that mirror at Target. But I will be looking. Homegoods is a favorite of mine too.
ReplyDeleteLooks SOOOO much better than the one from the living room! I love!!
ReplyDeleteLooks so great! We have *almost* the same one above our bed that's sort of aged silvery bronzey and we love it!
ReplyDeleteI just hung a mirror like this over my mantel! Wish I could've found mine at HomeGoods! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove it - even more than your living room mirror!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been searching for a sunburst mirror at several different HomeGoods for the past month with no luck :) So jealous that you found one...my search will continue! :)
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the spray paint around the edges, beautiful!
Happy Weekend!
Yes, it's always hit or miss there and it seems like things change quite frequently. Fingers crossed you find just what you have been looking for! :)
Deletexoxo,
Jen
SO pretty! I love that the bolder lines of this mirror seem to fill the space so much better than the other mirror did. A great find!
ReplyDeleteI've been working on spray painting so lamps. Wish I could do a pretty light fixture in my master bedroom, but in the South you absolutely cant't part with your ceiling fan!,
ReplyDeleteI have been horribly sick lately (fevers and 1 burst eardrum) but that didn't keep me from spray-painting the edges of the fan blades! I love the ombre look it has when it's on! Funny how you have energy for things like that!
ReplyDeleteSounds just like something I would do! :) Hope you are feeling better soon!!
Deletexoxo,
Jen
It looks beautiful! I used spray paint to spray a lamp for my laundry/mud room yellow. I wanted one of those metallic barn lamps for the room and it had to be yellow, but could never find one for a reasonable price (that is, under 200 euros) and then decided to buy an IKEA "foto" lamp (for 20 euros) and spray paint it yellow. I worked fine and looks just the way I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteJule
Love it! This is about as DIY as I get (spray paint lol) They make such great spray paint options now-adays that you can really breathe new life into old items. Love it. (and love your bedroom!)
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a mirror similiar to this for my foyer! This one is much better for the bedroom wall!
ReplyDeleteYes!!! A not so break your bank expensive trunk to have blankets falling out of and a tall big black/metal vase
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love it there. p.s. I LOVE your bedding, I've been looking for something just like that in yellow for our room for aaages. Can I ask where you got it? (crossing my fingers that the ship to the UK!)

ReplyDeletei love the way that turned out. I have been using that same ORB paint on everything and I swear everything I have used it for came out sooooo much better! Great job

ReplyDeleteWah! How have I not seen your blog earlier?! That room looks amazing! I've been revamping my craft room very slowly over a few years waiting until I can match up adequate funds with what I want for my room and only last weekend did I find what I needed. It's a terrific feeling when it all fits and you can say "YES! That's what this room needed!" I think I'll be following your blog quite regularly from now on ^_^ Thank you!
