Ha! I Labeled a Wall Now Too....

Does my labeling madness ever end?  I wonder that often...

Here is the story of the labeled playroom wall...

I went thrifting and found this super fantastic sunburst mirror:

I know that the rustic-ness of it all may be appealing to most, but I couldn't wait to paint it.  Sorry, I know some of your are cringing...

This was WAY back when we were doing the bedroom moulding project... I thought I would paint the mirror and use it above the bed... maybe add some letters?

When the time came, it was a bit cheesy for me.  The word LOVE above our bed was adorable, but it looked like it belonged in a little girls room, we ended up just borrowing the living room mirror for a bit and loved that so much more.

What to do, what to do?

Then, I started working on our playroom.  I really want to add storage, add better seating and pull the whole space together and call it donzo!  We painted the entertainment center....

But something was still missing and I knew exactly what is was.  The letters!

The kids boo'd me about using the white "Love" letters.  So did the hubs.  And they were right.  It's a playroom after all.  And it's for little guys...

So, we brainstormed other word ideas, BOYS... TOYS... Toys!  Toys it was.  Because that is what the room is all about!

So out came the wood letters and spray paint:

Two coats later the color dried so nice!  Loved it!  {To spray paint the mirror, I just cut a piece of newspaper down to size and stuck it inside the ring of the mirror, a little paint got on the mirror, but it was easy to carefully scrape off with a razor blade once the paint was completely dry.}

We just used a level and some picture hanging command strips to pop those babies up on the wall.  Even renters can enjoy this fun project!

It adds such a fun element to the room!

The wooden letters are 12" and were found at JoAnn's for around $5.99 each {but the hubs and I each used a 40% off coupon!}

Making for a fantastically fun wall labeled before and after!

Have I gone too far?  What's the craziest thing that you have labeled?

  2. So when I first read the blog post title I pictured little white label-er type labels on the wall and thought of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory because he labels everything in his apartment.

  6. The craziest thing I ever labeled was the clear egg container that is in our fridge that holds our eggs..yep, I labeled that baby EGGS even though it was completely see-through and it only holds eggs. My husband laughed but I told him the label was pretty and everything else in the fridge was labeled and that egg container looked plain and like it didn't fit and it needed a pretty label!

  8. Several years ago my sister-in-law gave me a great label maker and she joked that the next time she would see my husband, he would have a label of "husband" across his forehead. :-)

    Love the project - its those things that make a house a home.

  11. I don't think this is crazy at all and I think it looks great!

    The craziest labelling I ever did was two Christmases ago. I had my label maker at work because we were organizing our archives and my boss was off so I labelled everything on his desk. EVERYTHING. Some were normal but some were cheeky (I labelled all of his drawers as "snacks" and his headphones as "noise blockers" and his stuffed Dilbert as "my doll".) He kept finding new labels for days on end.

  12. Jen, you are a genius. Now THAT is a clever and awesome use of the starburst mirror. Way to kick it up a notch! :)

  13. Love the mirror painted. Also love my Silhouette SD. I'm way back in the stone ages and just about to try vinyl. I have 3 or 4 projects lined up: Silhouette of our terrier on his treat jar; Lower Stairway doing the "Family Established Initial," Paint and initial my lazy susan and Subway Art verses for my pantry (for me :P)

    Thanks so much for sharing your home and ideas with us!

  17. I love the mirror acting as the "O", very cute. I'm thinking of labeling our playroom wall with giant metal letters I found at a flea market, that spell P-L-A-Y.

  19. I bet all of these labeled spaces have helped your boys to read over the years. :-) Super cute! I love the green color that you picked. Using a starburst mirror for the "O" makes it decoratively fabulous.

  20. As for labeling walls, I have a sign above my cooktop in my kitchen that says "EAT", a sign above my sons bed that says "ETHAN" and I recently made a rustic looking sign for my baby's room that says "CARTER". I am way in love with that sign. Even pinned it on pinterest if you want to peak.

  25. Wow Jen! Looks really cute! I would've never thought of that idea. I label everything--the craziest thing I've labeled is probably my oldest child's art projects by date/school year--took forever and will probably never be appreciated :-)

  26. I do like your typography wall art, but silly me, I was expecting to see wall art made out of labels from a label printer. Now my brain is in full gear trying to think of what type of label-maker art I should make, LOL.

  32. Just wanted to say "what a fantastic find!" :) Love that mirror! I did have to giggle though when you said your hubby used a coupoon too. Does your JoAnn's not let you use multiple coupons? Ours does, which is always nice! Anyways, great job as usual!

  35. Bahaha, I love that Laura labeled her label maker. I just wanted to share my story when my BFF opened my fridge and said, "So the label maker made it to the fridge," and we both just cracked up laughing. I got the idea from you to label bins for quesadillas and sandwiches.

  36. I love to organize, but I rarely label anything. I think it is leftover from my days of being a preschool teacher. We were required to label everything in the room. Table, chair, floor, wall, you name it. Drove me nuts after a while.

  37. LOVE this!! I never would have thought a word would look good up there, but it looks fabulous!

  38. I so LOVE this!!!!! going to have inspiration from this for sure, mmmm....... what can I label??????? Am doing a MAJOR decluttering and it's taking sooo long but getting there. I once had 3 yes 3 households of STUFF here from MIL's estate, SIL to pick up my mum's stuff when she moved etc; finally nearly all gone and now youngest son decides to rent his house out and we now have HIS stuff, groan..............

  42. I just had to let you know that last week, during all of the huge lottery business, I had all of the money spent already. And I said to myself, "And then after I buy my mom a new house, I'm going to get Jen from iheartorganizing to come and remodel my entire house and I'll pay her like $100,000 because she's just so amazing."

    Sadly, I didn't win anything other than $7. If you're willing to come remodel for $7, let me know! :P
