474 IHeart: "Clutter Rehab" and a Giveaway!

**  Attention:  This Giveaway has since ended.  Thanks everyone for participating!!  The winners selected were #309: Suzanne, #364: mom2boys, and #155: author {wahoo!}, and have been contacted via email! **

When I revealed our new "built in" bookcase, many of my observant friends noticed my stash of organizing books:

Today I get to boast about my latest organizing read, that I believe to be a "Must Have" for anyone trying to find tips and tricks to get organized!

I am willing to bet that none of you are strangers to Laura who is the ultimate Organizing Junkie!  And if you haven't been introduced to her yet, you will adore her site, it's a given, so hop on over!

Well, not only does she totally heart to organize {for all the obvious reasons}, she also HAS A BOOK!

Clutter Rehab is my new FAVORITE organizing book.  No joke.  Here is why:
  • This book is a little "take with you anywhere you go" handbook.
  • There are a total of 101 tips and tricks on getting your life organized.
  • Because most tips only take up one page each, they are easy to read, understand and most importantly, IMPLEMENT!
  • She's like my long lost sister, I agree with everything mentioned in the book!  Here are some of my most favorite tips that she has outlined:
    • "Banish clutter excuses"
    • "Consolidate... everything!"
    • "Remember: less is more!"
    • "Give everything a designated space"
    • "Take pictures of sentimental clutter"
    • "Organizing doesn't have to be expensive - make do"
    • "Get kid's involved with organizing"
    • "Start every week with a menu plan"
    • "If you don't like something, change it"
    • "Re purpose items for creative storage solutions"
    • "Do a 'ten minute tidy' every night before bed"
OK, so all 101 are completely useful, I could really list them all.  And each tip is elaborated with all the information and tools to get you there!

If you wanna snag a copy for yourself, it's for sale here on Amazon.

Or, you can enter to win a copy for yourself!  Right here!

That's right!  I get to giveaway THREE copies of Clutter Rehab!  It's the perfect organizing prize!

1} Anyone in the world is eligible to enter! {UPDATED!}

2} Leave your email or blog address so I have a way to contact you when you win.

3} Leave a comment on the giveaway post stating "IHeart Kicking Clutter" and for fun, tell me the your favorite clutter eliminating tip or recent clutter kicking success story!

  1. I heart your blog AND I heart kicking clutter! I recently was very proud to kick the memorabilia clutter that I had been lugging around for literally decades. I eliminated 50% of it! It feels good and I think I will go back through it again next year as I am sure I will be ready to let go of even more!

I recently read What's an Unorganized Person to Do? And it revolutionized a lot about our home. I'm not a naturally clean person and it takes a lot of work for me. I pulled out a notebook and took notes the whole time. I reorganized our closet, under the sink, my clothing...so much! Now if only I could get it to keep my living room clean from my crafts...

  5. IHeart Kicking Clutter! To help teach my 6 year old son how to kick clutter, I had him help box up his winter clothes and get out his spring/summer clothes. I had him make piles of shorts and t-shirts, then count how many he had. He had to write a list of the clothes he already has, and the clothes we need to purchase (khaki shorts, sandals). That way, when we go shopping, he already knows he has 12 pairs of basketball shorts and can't beg for more :)

My favorite clutter eliminating tip is to have a place for everything. So often clutter builds at my house simply because we're not sure where to put something...which means it winds up on the nearest flat surface.

  12. I heart kicking clutter!

I use to move every year for my job. I had an annual reminder to rid myself of clutter that has collected dust over the year or things that I haven't used during that year. If I haven't used it in a year, I didn't need it. I lived in a studio apartment, so it was essential to be clutter-less

Well, now I'm coming up one my 2 year anniversary of living in house. I have never felt so cluttered and accumulated.

I could use this book as a remind on how to kick my recent cluttering habit.

  22. IHeart Kicking Clutter! I HATE clutter with a passion. I grew up in a clutter-filled house and vowed I'd never live like that in my own house. I like to get rid of things that we don't use or love periodically. I make trips to Goodwill occasionally and drop stuff off that is good enough to donate and the rest goes in the trash!

  24. I heart kicking clutter. I recently found your blog and its been one of my recent inspirations to start kicking my clutter/saving everything habit (don't worry I'm not a compulsive hoarder or anything)! :) My most recent decluttering victory was going through all my clothes and weeding out the stuff I never wear any more. Then we took out all the shelves in our "closet" and made extra hanging rods so everything is hanging instead of stuffed into about 25 shelves - ahh so much better.

I'm a clutter-kicking junkie! I actually work as an organizer/bookkeeper for a friend's business and organize my friend's houses...sometimes when they actually ask me to :)
One of my hardest things to tackle is my kid's school papers that have to be returned, for example field trip slips and snack dates. I now have two cute clipboards hanging on the wall at the end of kitchen where I can click each child's spelling words, permission forms, etc... to eliminate lost/late papers. Makes me so happy :)

One of the best things I've done in my home is to separate my son's toys into four plastic tubs of varying sizes. I rotate them every 2 days or so. If he asks for something that isn't in his current tub, he has to collect everything and put it away, then I get the tub he wants. That took 3/4 of his toys out of the mix at any time and makes him participate in the cleanup!

  51. I just found your blog recently and would love to win this book. We just moved across country and despite getting rid of tons before the move, we have a lot left to purge. Being a military family, we never know what our 'next place' will be. As soon as I started unpacking, I set aside a box of things to donate. This helps make sure the other things coming out of the box actually get assigned a home! If someone hasn't moved recently, they can do the same thing, just tackle one cabinet/drawer at a time.

  53. I HEART KICKING CLUTTER! I'm new to your site (reading for about a week) and LOVE it!! Thanks for all the great tips! My mom just sold her house of 42 years and has "dropped" several boxes of my "stuff" (aka all the papers I ever wrote, birthday cards I ever received, art I ever made...you get the picture!) at my small SF apartment...I went through everything and narrowed it down to two letters from my dad (deceased); 2 from my mom; and two from my granny. I enjoyed looking at (sorta) the rest and said goodbye. As a mom of 2 with a 3rd on the way, I've decided to keep 2 special things from each year for the kids to look through when they get older, but not boxes from every year!

I just recently found out that I am pregnant, and since we can't afford to move, I need to kick clutter so that there is room for our bundle of joy in our one bedroom apartment! It will be quite the challenge, but thanks to you, I am newly inspired and up to the challenge!

  106. IHeart Kicking Clutter! My current clutter battle is between me and my 2 year old's growing toy collection. It is so satisfying to walk into her room and know that every toy has a place to be neatly tucked away. I feel like I reorganize her things daily to try and make it work.

Or at least I'd like to give it a swift kick, my screen saver scrolls through our pictures in slideshow format and it keeps showing the picture of our messy house from 7 years ago when I took the picture to inspire me to kick clutter. I clearly need something short, sweet to the point to kick me in the butt. Thanks!

I love to use clear, over the door shoe holders to help kick clutter. My favorite places to use them so far are the pantry door. Great for popcorn packs, the kids snacks, those mix or spice envelopes, and condiment bottles stored upside down. Also for the game closet. Love to put the small card games in the shoe holders so they dont get lost in the closet.

My husband and I had amassed an impressive collection of photos (paper) that were basically stuffed into photo boxes, still in their photo center sleeves. Over two weekends I sifted through all the photos, tossing unneeded duplicates, photo sleeves, fuzzies, and red eyes! I added labels to the photo sections and hurray! Organizing success! 182. IHeart Kicking Clutter!! :) My fav clutter reducing tip is to look at something and "triage: it. Does it make me happy? Do I really NEED it? Do I use it regularly? Does it hold a VERY important sentimental memory for me? If it doesn't fit any of these categories then sell it, donate it or trash it! You don't need every picture you have ever taken, every paper your kids have ever colored or every knick knack you have ever been given. You will survive and feel better because you have less "stuff" holding you down! :)
