We always make sure to have lots of fun today, with a lot of activities, some old, some new! This year I came across this great printable, so I cut out the hearts and strung them on our kitchen shelves!
Since I am sure all of you gals out there will be getting some pretty bangles and bobbles {wink wink}, I thought I would share an uber easy jewelry project I whipped up this weekend!
I was at Home Depot picking up some paint and I ran across these decorative radiator grates:
The incredible thing is that they come in a variety of patterns, I instantly knew how I wanted to use one, I just had to decide which one I wanted!
Once I got home, I ran to my bedroom and snagged a white frame that had some amazing artwork in it from one of the most talented bloggers I know...
I had a new plan for the custom artwork {propped up in a pretty frame in my desk area}. I needed that frame for my new project!
Using a snips, we cut the sheet metal down to size.
Then, just using some clear packing tape, I taped the sheet metal to the back of the frame matte. Here is a not so glamorous shot of what the back looked like. I just used the prongs on the frame to hold the matte in place.
That was it! I turned it over, and hung it back on the wall and popped my dangly earrings in!!
The pattern/cutout was the perfect solution for my earrings, they hang just perfectly in their new home!
Leaving me with a piece of art that is also functional! And my favorite part, is that now that I can see my earrings and their matches right in front of me each morning, I will be much more likely to actually wear my earrings!
Here is another before and after...

AFTER:
{I guess you get a sneak peak at the paint I picked up too! More on that later this week.}
Have you been whipping up any jewelry displays? Any links to share to awesome jewelry projects completed or inspiration found? Any fun valentines day traditions that you are extra excited to participate in today? Or how about a new tradition you are hoping to start this year?
Just so you know, on this day of hearting, IHEART YOU and wish you all the most special day!
Perfect!! I have been looking for a creative and affordable way to store my jewelry! This is the perfect way! I've also seen a couple people use lace in a fram, but that doesn't seem quite as durable as this. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat project.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this before, but yours is so clean and pretty! love it!!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant. I need something like this for my earings and my necklaces. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I've been wanting to make something like this for my jewelry!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen -- this is awesome! I could think of so many uses for this. Unfortunately, my local HD does not carry the exact style of sheet metal that you used in your project. Do you have style number/manufacturer for the sheet metal that you used so I can try and hunt it down? Thank you so much. You are one my favorite blog reads!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that! I made a jewelry organiser in the fall, but it's getting a bit crowded with both my necklaces and earrings. I may have to do this too! See the one I made here: http://toaprettylife.blogspot.com/2010/10/jewelry-organiser.html
ReplyDeleteLove this idea for earrings. I was actually going to use window screen but this looks much nicer. Here's an idea I did with my necklaces and I LOVE it.
ReplyDeletehttp://jasonjennysingley.blogspot.com/2011/01/oh-im-in-love-with.html
Oh, so pretty and functional too! Now if only my local Home Depot carried it :( Looking forward to seeing your new paint color - I love the small dose - gray/blues are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love that idea! So cute!!!! I have been trying to figure out how to organize my jewelry for a long time so I will have to try this out!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Any ideas how to adapt it for stud earrings?
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! What a good way to improve the messy jumble that is my current earring organizer--a plastic tray with dividers.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea!!! What a great way to display your earrings. Can't wait to see more of that wall color. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I need to do something like this.
ReplyDeleteI want to run out to home depot stat! =) Ohmygosh I am adding it to my to-do list! in love =)
ReplyDeleteHappy Vday!
xoxo
Jenn @ Peas & Crayons
That is so cute! And I love the earrings! Unbelievable from Premier:) ? I sell it and those are SO poplular!
ReplyDeleteFantastic solution! can't wait to try it out! Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of takes on framed jewellery hangers but this is by far my fave! Who would have thought to use a radiator grille? Much classier than chicken wire that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love the design on the metal. Here is my DIY jewelry project - http://bit.ly/bFbFDx
ReplyDeleteOMG: How did you know I was trying to figure out what to do with my earrings!!! LOL: your blog & posts are perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteLike, it seems, EVERYBODY, I was just this weekend thinking of ideas for hanging my jewelery. I have a pretty little silver box on my dresser that's soooo not big enough....which is why my jewelery is in three different rooms! It shouldn't be too hard to adapt the design in order to have a matching necklace hanger....:-) Thanks Jen!! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at similar rad covers at Ace this weekend! I don't have tons of jewelry, so this isn't somehing I NEED, but a great idea! I think it would look cool spray painted a fun color and framed to serve as a visual art. Also, thanks for the shout out! Hope you have a great Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I need to make one too! :O)I love your hoop earrings with the dangly beads- Do you remember where you bought them?

I love it Jen! Thanks for sharing. I have been wanting to make one of these for quite awhile now but was going to use mesh or something similar. The radiator grate looks amazing though. This is definitely on my To Do list now!

ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I'm always looking for better ways to store my jewelry (right now they're all hanging in a pretty ribbon hung on the wall). I can't wait to try to make my own!
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a great idea! My dangly earrings need some definate storage. I think I may just do this!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I LOVE the idea, but as a jewelry lady I have to warn you storing your jewelry like this long term is not a great idea. It will tarnish more quickly if you store it out in the open. I just wanted to give you a heads up. It really is a cute idea, though!

A coworker and I follow your blog and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea! So, we canvased the internet looking for the decorative sheet metal, since no local Home Depot, Lowe's or any other hardware store carried it! We found a site acehardwareoutlet.com that supplies the sheets, but you have to order 3 sheets at a time. Just wanted to pass the info along to anyone that wanted another resource to purchase the sheet metal. Thanks for the AWESOME idea!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous project - earrings turned into wall art! Love the decorative sheet metal; it's such a fab background for the earrings. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteOh man. I just found you and I could NOT be more excited!! I've just started my own teaching blog and am a little bit OCD about organizing in my classroom...but now I can REALLY get it together. Thanks for sharing your ideas!!!! :)
ReplyDeletehttp://littlemissglamourgoestokindergarten.blogspot.com/
love love love it!!
ReplyDeleteLove! I've been on the hunt for a way to store my earrings for months now. I recently did a deep clean and sort of my bedroom - its much better now and my earrings are stored in a dish that matches the decor of the room...it works for now, but I know it won't last forever. Something to hang the dangle ones on would really help out. Will be reading more of your blog - been trying to get more organized lately - it's like I just, I just have to. My husband is deploying in July and I just have to - so I'll be ready for the single parent gig for a while. One room is completed. :)
ReplyDeleteI found one of those mesh pencil holders and put it upside down on my bedside and put my earrings on that. keeps them all together and you can see what you have.
DeleteI LOVE this idea! I'm going to Home Depot tonight! You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteit looks great. fancy even. now the only thing missing is a pair these. :) jesslope.etsy.com
ReplyDeleteam loving this! am trying to replicate it for my sewing/craft group. i am with mom2tnt, would love to know all the stats so i can hunt it down on the net. haven't had any luck finding this pattern anywhere.
ReplyDeletethank you,

mom2tnt,
ReplyDeletei found the exact pattern on home depot's website:
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202525460/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&AID=10505125&PID=3872207&SID=skim1847X546955X09242999e4c6849c19b8721cc5ceba34&cj=true&cm_mmc=CJ-_-3872207-_-10505125
would love to know if your opening on your frame was an 8x10. so excited to make this.
thank you
Thank you for sharing this! I followed your instructions and made this same thing today!! I used a black frame instead of white and I LOVE LOVE my new earring holder!
ReplyDeleteI got the metal at home depot ($19) and got a discount frame with a mat already in it at a local frame store.
@Brianne-zam,
ReplyDeleteThe frame was an old Ribba frame from Ikea that had a matte. Any frame that has a smaller dimension than the metal grate from home depot will work, as long as you can snip it down.
xoxo,
Jen
At Lowe's its called decorative tin. This might help people look for it.
DeleteLove this! Hope you don't mind if I pin it on Pinterest. :-)
ReplyDeletewow, this is SUCH a nice piece!!! i love it!!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I spent some time looking up and down the isles of HD looking for something just like this! I must have missed the radiator grate section! I love the clean modern look! Thanks for sharing : )
ReplyDeleteThis is ingenious!!! My daughters are going to LOVE me for this:)
ReplyDeleteI am going to HD tomorrow, I need to make one or two of these probably 2 I can always find someone to give one to.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is getting married in August. Her fiance is Indian and we have spent a lot of time in jewelry stores trying to help her pick our her wedding jewelry. (if you have never seen and Indian bride, google a picture!) I wanted her to be able to display her jewelry after her wedding instead of keeping it in a box and this was the perfect solution!! Not only is it big enough to hold everything (I didn't cut down the 12"x24" metal sheet) but it's pretty too!! Thank you so much for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI totally did one of these and gave one as a Xmas gift! Love!!!

I found some at Lowe's its called Decorative tin. I asked a lady and she knew right what I was talking about and sent me in the right direction. It was about $26 for a good size sheet. I
ReplyDeletemade some candles out of it. Then passed the rest on to a friend to make something like this out of it.
She was able to get several 8 X 10 picture frames out of it.
I love your idea, having your jewlery hanging in front of you makes you wear it more often. I reconfigured a wooden room divider to hang my necklaces and earings on and absolutley love it, it's getting a little crowded now so I might have to give this a try! To see my wooden jewlery organizer check out my pinterest http://pinterest.com/pin/277604764500629677/
ReplyDeleteYou are a genius- I love it!!
ReplyDeleteLove this project!!!! Where did you purchase the white frame from? I can't find any frames with the prongs on the inside.
ReplyDeleteIkea - it's a RIBBA frame.
Deletexoxo!
Jen
Where did you get your wine glass shelves from? Love them!
ReplyDeleteThey are from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/16-Inch-Hanging-Hanger-Stemware-Cabinet/dp/B000H0SEP6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329712361&sr=8-2
Deletexoxo,
Jen
Thanks! I didn't realize they didn't come together. What about your floating shelves - where did you get those? Was it hard to make?
DeleteThe floating shelves are from IKEA. Here is a whole post on the subject: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2010/10/october-featured-space-kitchen_07.html Super easy project!
Deletexoxo,
Jen
hi i was just wondering what about dust etc. that can accumulate on the earrings or net when it is out in the open like that. ?
ReplyDeleteI totally LOVE this idea! Unfortunately I can't seem to find the metal sheet at any hardware store in Canada! Booooo! Has anyone had any luck finding the metal sheet anywhere in Canada?
ReplyDeleteI've had the same problem - I've searched the GTA and could not find it. Ended up purchasing it at Home Depot in Buffalo in a recent cross border shopping trip. Good luck!
DeleteI feel like we could be friends :) Thanks for the inspiration! Here are my DIY Jewelry Displays. http://www.getsnazzy.com/2012/03/my-diy-jewelry-displays/ I just started following you on Pinterest too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this idea and cannot wait to make this. What color matte did you place behind the sheet metal though? Is it black or a charcoal? Love it!
ReplyDeleteHello!
DeleteWe actually just taped the radiator cover to the white frame matte, and there is nothing behind that. It's open so the jewelry can easily be hung.
xoxo!
Jen
I just looked at your pictures again and realized that! In the middle of assembling and can't wait to hang it up. I found the same sheet metal at HD today. The lady helping me loved the idea too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a neat idea. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHannahsGems
Hi Jen! I love this design! I am going to try making it this weekend! I am just wondering what size frame did you use? I have a ton of earrings and want a larger frame!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Sarah
This idea is fabulous!!! Great job! Way to make it look so chic, too! I featured this on my blog today: http://www.vixenmade.com/2012/04/10-creative-diy-projects.html

I have to be honest I am probably the LEAST creative person I know and I LOVE this idea. Me and some girlfriends went and got the stuff the other day and I just made 2 of this in like 10 minutes. This is the easiest craft I have eve made and it worked! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
ReplyDeleteI love this-
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me to do this with a frame I had laying up in the attic, and some tin I had left over from a radiator cover repair!
http://new1790house.blogspot.com/2012/04/earring-holder.html
Thanks so much for sharing!
for added fun you could add hooks to the bottom for necklaces!
ReplyDeleteLove your style of earrings! Where did you get some of them from?
ReplyDeleteI love the earring holder you made! I am soo doing that. But can you also hang studs on there? I want to be able to hang all my earrings on it
ReplyDeletenice, we can also create this type of Radiator Cabinets projects, check it here

ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great way to organize jewelry! If you don't mind, I'm going to pin this to our Storage & Organizing board.

Absolutely! Pin away and THANK YOU!

I love the way you put you earrings on display. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this, ran right out to HD and bought the same pattern you used :)
ReplyDeleteOne question - what size frame did you use???
I was hoping to make 2 12x12s since the sheet was 12x24in, but I can't find any frames for that size.
Thanks!!
Love this idea! Thank you for posting! I have pinned!
ReplyDeleteYou've just given a poor girl a chique life back without spending so much money! xD
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me what snips you used? I was also wondering if I could secure the metal sheet with staple gun instead of using a tape?
Great idea!
Hi Gia!
DeleteSo happy you are able to do this idea and make it work for you! :) We used a tin snips for the metal. Because I attached it directly to the matting of the frame, I used the tape so that there wouldn't be anything visible on the other side. A staple gun would have gone through the matting. If you were going to attach it directly to a frame, if it were thick enough, a staple gun could work.
xoxo!
Jen
Did this yesterday, and I love the outcome. Much better than any jewelry holder I have considered purchasing! I bought my radiator cover from Amazon (12" x 24") and got a frame the exact size at Garden Ridge (on sale!). The only thing I did differently was I didn't use a matte since the frame was perfect. I hot glued the screen into the frame. It works wonderfully! Thank you! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI hang my earrings on the rim of a beautiful martini glass. They catch the light and are easy to see where they are sitting on my dresser.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this idea!!!! I made one of these and instead of using a picture frame, I found a shadow box. I removed the glass section in front of the shadow box and in its place I addes the grate which I had cut down to size- no gluing or anything required!!!. I absolutely love it!!!!!! Here it is on Pinterest :)
