Quite awhile back now I had shared with you how I sorted through our mail. Today, the process hasn't really changed much, I just tend to utilize my new desk area for writing out correspondence or those lovely "bills".
I once used this little mail tin, that hung on a hook in our kitchen, to stash outgoing mail.
The functionality is perfect, however, it was the finish that I wasn't uber excited about. And because I have since wanted to add it to my desk space, it received a quick coat of white spray paint....
The white goes perfectly with the rest of the "office" accessories, and I added a blue piece of scrap paper with some rub on letters to give it an updated label.
And that's that! Perfectly easy update {maybe I was motivated by the one I had just done in the boys room?}. And it cost, well, nothing, because once again, I just reinvented something I already had with a fresh coat of paint. I think I am addicted.
Who else is reinventing things around the home to use as stylish organizers? Anyone else completely addicted to spray paint? It snowed here this weekend. I think that means my spray painting days will be limited for the next 6 months...
It does fit in better with the white paint. I'm addicted to spray paint..I'll admit it. Snow? Wow!!! Not ready for that!
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm addicted to spray paint!!! =) Maybe it's a Jenn thing? lol!
ReplyDeleteI have that same porcelain egg crate -- I love how you used it to corral office supplies! It almost makes me want to run out and hunt for another one (I got my first one at ROSS for $2.50! score!) Right now it sits on my dresser and holds my earrings =)
Much love!

Cute.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Yes, it snowed here this past weekend, too... although I'm thinking that if I spray paint stuff in the garage over the next 6 months, it won't be so bad... right? :)

Super cute office space! I am completely addicted to spray paint -- isn't it the best!? :) I just read the comments above. Maybe it is a Jenn thing :).
ReplyDeleteI think I might do that with a metal bucket that I am using in the ensuite so it matches what is in there (its yellow and does not go but practical for my hairbrushes). That looks excellent, I wonder what else I could paint....?
ReplyDeleteIts amazing what a lick of paint can do. I just adore your office space. Nice work :)
ReplyDeletei do like it better white. i recently repurposed some clutter-y fridge magnetes to help organize my life in my loft. http://lofteeideas.blogspot.com/2010/11/magnetic-calendar-and-shopping-list.html
ReplyDeleteWow...you are amazing. I've never posted a comment - just have been a "lurker"...but you inspired me to write something. Your closets are so creative and incredible - love the one you just did for your son. And every day you have such info-packed posts. You have so much talent...thanks for sharing it through your website. I love the mail holder by the way - as I do all your projects!
ReplyDeleteYes...I LOVE spray paint, too. Here in So.Cal. our spray painting days are probably 360 days each year...I couldn't imagine being limited to six months a year! You must have a stack of things to spray paint by the time it warms up!
ReplyDeleteJen that looks so great. I haven't spray painted yet. Might have to give it ago. Jen thanks for providing such great inspiration
ReplyDeleteLooks really cute! I love it
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, Love it! I know this is unrelated, but I wonder if I could put a request in for a future how-to? Inspired by you I last night went home and coralled all of my glasslock snapware food storage lids. Like you I recently cleaned out all the plastic containers and switched to glass. I wanted to keep the lids from falling out of the cupboard each time I opened the door. I found a suitable box, and covered it with wallpaper I had spare. It looks terrible! Do you think you could do a post on how to recover empty boxes with paper? I know you do it all the time, and they look wonderful, but mine looks like a child wrapped it! It was hard doing the corners, the paper tore as I was trying to tuck it inside the box. I know it's a difficult process to photograph (too many hands needed!) but I would love to see a post explaining your method. Thanks so much for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteSpray paint is a dear friend of mine too:) Enjoy seeing how you are able to take canning jars, elegant wallpaper, and a tin bucket and make it all work together so beautifully. Truly inspired!
ReplyDeleteLove the mail pail.
ReplyDeleteI am totally addicted to spray paint! I just painted all my bathroom accessories white because we moved and the old color did not work with the new bathroom. It was amazing how easy it was, and now I don't have to buy all new stuff. Now if only I could spray paint my towels...
Hayley, I will add that to my list of blog ideas! Until then, an option would be to use this awesome tutorial Jane did from The Borrowed Abode: http://theborrowedabode.com/2010/09/how-to-diy-a-thrifty-decorative-storage-box/
ReplyDeleteMy only other tip for now, patience, spray adhesive and mod podge are all great things! :)
xoxo,
Jen
Jen, thanks so much for the link! I was going about it totally the wrong way (like wrapping a present). Definitely one to add to your list though!
ReplyDeleteEvery time you show that office, I growl at you just the tiniest bit- I have a huge closet slated for the same makeover, and I can't seem to get to it! So I'm sitting here having organization envy and just drooling over the pics.
ReplyDeletewhere did you find your mail bin?
ReplyDeleteI found it on clearance from Pottery Barn awhile back.
Deletexoxo,
Jen
How did you do the rub on letters
